Hey there !

We’ve made it to the end of the year! With 1 last club session to go this Thursday, this edition of The Logbook is all about celebrating achievements and looking forward to what’s coming in 2023. There’s been some exciting news in the last term so here’s to finishing this year in true festive fashion!

Marauder Gaia crowned Australian Champion at Adelaide Nationals

Last week, our Marauders were in full force at the Australian Senior National Championships. Held in Adelaide as the culmination of the year’s senior National circuit, the competition is the top title in the country. We’re so proud to share that 16-year-old Marauder Gaia Hardge is this year’s National Women’s Sabre Champion! Defeating 2 state rivals to claim the title, Gaia was part of an all-NSW podium and was also a part of the gold medal NSW team in her team event.

Marauders recognised at Summer Hill Community Celebration

In celebration of Summer Hill electorates vibrant community, Marrickville Marauders Fencing Club was invited to join the Summer Hill Community Celebration Ceremony at Ashfield Bowling Club. The Ceremony is hosted by council and local government, and commemorates the outstanding achievements of community organisations in the local government area.

Our resident Australian Team members Gaia, Dan and Leo were presented with a Certificate of Recognition by Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill, for their accolades on the international stage. The three Marauders were previously interviewed by and featured in Inner West Review magazine earlier in the year for their representation at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships.

As a not-for-profit local sporting club, our mission has always been to better our community through accessibility to sport. Recognition such as this would not be possible without you and are testament to the support we receive from our growing community who truly believe in our values and direction.

Club Memberships are now open for 2023!

Update on Equipment Hire for 2023

As many of us begin to think about next year, we would like to give an update on the Equipment Hire service that will be introduced next year.

From the beginning of 2023, masks, fencing jackets and chest protectors will be available for hire. We will be offering 3 hire options - Mask and Jacket Bundle, Mask Only and Jacket Only. Chest protectors will be included with jackets for female fencers at no extra cost.

Equipment hire will work as a loan and will be charged on a subscription basis per month. You will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of your hired gear when you take it home with you. Never had gear before? Don’t worry, we’ll provide a set of care instructions you can follow!

You will be required to supply your own glove and wires if you don’t have them already. Electric jackets and sabres will remain available for general borrowing during club sessions.

Hire options and more information will be available through our website here once we return next year. Stay tuned!

Christmas & New Year Shutdown Dates

We’ll be taking some time off fencing to recharge and refresh over the end-of-year holidays. Our final club session for the year will be Thursday 22 December 2022 and we will return on Thursday 2 February 2023.

As this is our last edition of the year, our Team would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe, and we’ll see you back on the piste next year!
